DIANE M. LOWE

A Sacramento, California native, Lowe is a community activist and civic leader. She has been a special guest in the White House and participated in a National Security Forum, Women's Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., Democrat National Party Convention, and served on Sacramento's Community Services Planning Council among other positions. Organizational activities include League of Women Voters, Chamber of Commerce, USAF Air War College, Association Executives.

With a passion for ecumenism, Lowe has met with all global Christian leaders including Pope John Paul II and the World Council of Churches' General Secretary. She has served as Chair of the National Workshop on Christian Unity and Co-Chair of the Jubilee of Jesus Christ 2000. She is currently with the North State Ecumenical Conference and the Advisory Board of the Religious Coalition of Cable Television, Sacramento.

Lowe has held several leadership positions within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) including its International Delegation, Joint Lutheran-Reformed Coordinating Committee, Churchwide Assembly, Synod Council, Lutheran Office of Public Policy Council, Commission for Ecumenical Affairs and Conference Cabinet. At the parish level, she has held many congregation positions including Council, Parish Education Director, Evangelism Chair, Pastoral Call Committee, and coordinator of several special events. Lowe is currently a member of Sacramento area's Lutheran Church of the Master and former member of Advent Lutheran Church and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Lowe retired as District Representative for State Senator John Garamendi and has owned/managed large mobile home parks.

Currently married to Sacramento attorney Burl Waits, she is the widow of Major General Dewey K. K. Lowe, USAF (ret.) and has a combined family of ten children and 24 grandchildren. A seasoned traveler, Lowe has visited 34 countries.
